Hound Hangout March/April 2008 Newsletter

Spring is coming, Spring is coming. We made it through the tough winter months and only had to close one day due to snow. Much better than last year’s closures. We’ve gotten so lucky the past couple of weeks having such wonderful weather. It is just a precursor of what is hopefully to come more often in the next few months. Dry, sunny and warm days make everyone much happier.

We have many dogs who come with jackets and/or shoes on. Now that the weather is getting warmer we may be taking the jackets off when it warms up (and the shoes come off pretty often). We would like to ask that you please label your dog’s clothes so that they don’t get mixed up with another dog’s clothing items.

With warmer weather people are taking their dogs out more to dog parks, beaches, and other non-familiar places. Please keep an extra close eye on your dog after being at any of these places to watch for sicknesses and/or fleas. We don’t want to pass that on to the other dogs that are here. If your dog has noticeable fleas we will ask that you take care of it prior to bringing your dog back. Keeping up on your monthly flea treatment should prevent that from happening

Danielle has started her first training class here and said it went

great. Her class size will be small at first so if you want to take a class from her you will be getting much more one on one time while she is still in the process of building her class size. You can look on our website for start dates for new classes or just ask Danielle.

She is also doing private lessons if your schedule doesn’t match up with group class times.

I’ve visited this issue time and time again. Please call if your dog is not going to be here on his/her scheduled day. We need to be able to fill your dog’s spot when there is a waiting list of dogs who want to come.

There have been a few new staff changes as well. There really is no getting away from it in this industry. Many people leave because they have gained such great experience here that they are able to move on to advance their careers. Please be patient with new staff. It takes awhile to learn all the customer faces to match the dogs.

If you have any cute Easter pictures of your dog we would love to put them up on our board up front.

February/March 2007

Rain, Rain, Rain… Mud, Mud, Mud… That seems to be the theme for this month.  It is frustrating, however I can’t say that I’m not happy to have this mild weather compared to last month. I had another load of woodchips delivered Saturday 2/17 which will help with the mud until I can get the entire yard redone. This month I want to bring up a subject that I feel very strongly about; leashes. In December and January we had two dogs, while at their homes, get hit by cars. One of the dogs has had to go through two surgeries and is still recovering. The other, unfortunately did not make it. We haven’t had any dogs get hit by cars going to and from their car at Hound Hangout however it is a very real possibility. All it would take is for a stray dog or cat to run across the street and one of our dogs could follow. It’s up to you if you have your dog on leash to and from your car but we have leashes you can borrow to take your dog to the car if you’d like.

Staff changes.

As most of you have probably noticed, we’ve had quite the turnover in the past couple of weeks/months.  Jeff left in December. He decided it was better for him, while in school, to go through a work

study program. Jean-Paul decided to concentrate more on boarding dogs and Shannon went to work at a vet’s office and is concentrating on going back to school to

fulfill her goal of becoming a Vet-Tech. I’m very happy for all of them however sad for

us. This is the first time we’ve had such a large turn-over of staff.

Here’s a little about our new staff.

Jackie: Jackie started in January. She worked in a doggie daycare in California where she lived prior to moving to Washington. She has been doing a great job so far. She loves the dogs and is getting to know many of our doggy parents.

Sarah: Sarah started working a couple of weeks ago. Sarah raised, trained, and showed Cavalier King Charles Spaniels growing up.  She has experience training her own dogs as an adult as well. Sarah has fallen in love with our dogs and is excited that this job is so much fun J Sarah has been doing a great job and is learning quickly how things work at Hound Hangout.

Catelin: Catelin is the newest member of our Pack Leaders. She grew up with dogs her entire life and has hopes of becoming a veterinarian. She has only begun her training but is learning quickly.

With all the new faces, mistakes will be made and pickups may take longer on some days than usual. Please be patient, it takes awhile for people to find their personal style. If you have any comments, good or bad, please come to myself or Morgan and let us know. Customer feedback is our best tool at assuring the highest quality customer service.
